Camera News This Week: Nikon’s Big Zoom, OM PEN Delays and New Lenses
If you have been waiting for something big, camera news this week is more about pro glass and shipping dates than new bodies. Nikon’s long-awaited Z 120-300mm f/2.8 has been seen at a Formula 1 race. OM System’s new PEN is selling faster than expected. Sigma and Tamron have both added compact zooms. Here is what matters for photographers in India.

Nikon Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S Spotted at the Singapore GP
Nikon announced development of this S-line lens in May, but there is still no launch date. Last weekend, photographers at the Singapore Grand Prix were seen using it on Nikon Z9 bodies, and Nikon Rumors shared the images. The headline feature is confirmed: a built-in 1.4x teleconverter that takes the lens to 420mm at f/4. Weight and price are TBC. Rumours point to a launch at the end of October. For context, the older F-mount 120-300mm f/2.8E cost about $9,500 when it arrived in 2019.

OM System PEN: Preorders May Wait Until Spring 2027

The OM System PEN is a retro-styled Micro Four Thirds camera. It has a 20.4MP sensor, 5.5-stop in-body stabilisation, a built-in EVF and 4K 30p video. US pricing starts at $999.99 for the body. OM Japan confirmed an October 30 release but said heavy preorder demand means some versions, plus the BLS-7 battery and BCS-7 charger, may not ship until spring 2027. It is not yet clear whether this affects markets outside Japan. India price and availability are TBC.
New Zooms from Sigma and Tamron
Sigma’s 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS | Contemporary completes its compact APS-C f/2.8 zoom set. It weighs 390g, includes OS2 optical stabilisation, takes 55mm filters and comes in Fujifilm X, Sony E and Canon RF mounts. The US price is $799. Tamron has brought its 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD to Nikon Z. It weighs 380g, uses 67mm filters and costs $729 in the US, with sales from October 22. India prices for both lenses are TBC, so check with authorised dealers before you pay grey-market rates.
India Price Watch: Canon EOS R5 Mark II
In the US, the Canon EOS R5 Mark II has dropped by $300 to $4,099 at some retailers. In India, Canon’s online store currently lists the body at ₹3,60,990. We have not seen an official India price cut yet. It is worth asking your local dealer about festive-season bundles before Diwali.
A Photographer’s Take
For fashion and advertising work, the Sigma 50-120mm is the most interesting story here. On an APS-C body it covers roughly 75-180mm equivalent at f/2.8. That is a classic range for beauty close-ups and runway, in a lens light enough for a long shoot day. The Nikon 120-300mm is built for sport, but a fast, bright long zoom also works well for outdoor fashion, where compression and background separation sell the image. The OM PEN is a fun second camera for behind-the-scenes content, not a main commercial tool.
The Bottom Line
This week’s camera news favours lens shoppers over body upgraders. If you shoot Fujifilm, Sony or Canon APS-C, keep an eye on the Sigma’s India pricing. Nikon pros should wait for the 120-300mm launch. Canon R5 Mark II buyers should compare dealer offers before the festive rush.
